Abstract

The fishing activity on Argentine anchovy Northern stock (34° S-41° S) during the 1993-2011 period was studied. The basic data derived from the commercial fleet catch records. Annual landings reached a minimum of 5,900 t in 1999 and a maximum of 36,300 t in 2004. The largest catches, performed by the offshore ice chilling fleet, averaged 11,800 t. As of 2003 it was observed an increase in the coastal ships share and a decrease in that of the inshore fleet that in 2004-2011 represented less than 3% of total landings. The major activity, developed between 37° S-41° S in the August-November period, had Mar del Plata as the main port of landing. The average catch per trip and the mean HP of ships, that as of 1999 increased in the inshore fleet, remained constant in the other two.
